Understanding Root Canal Treatment
A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat a tooth with infected or damaged pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth often referred to as the nerve. When this pulp becomes infected due to decay or injury, it can cause significant pain and inflammation.
To relieve the discomfort and save the tooth, the entire pulp is carefully removed during a root canal procedure. Once the infected tissue is taken out, the inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and sealed to prevent further issues. Root canals are an effective way to preserve natural teeth and eliminate pain caused by deep infection.

What to Expect During a Root Canal?
The root canal procedure begins with a local anesthetic to numb the area around the affected tooth. Once you’re comfortable, we carefully remove the decayed tissue and pulp from inside the tooth. The canals are then cleaned thoroughly to eliminate any bacteria and are sealed to prevent future infection. After the cleaning and sealing, we may recommend placing a crown on the tooth for additional protection and strength.
The entire procedure usually takes about an hour and allows you to leave the office feeling pain-free. If you have any questions about root canals or would like to learn more about the process, feel free to contact us today!
